VP Communications

About me:
Art has been a tool for me to tell my own story. My art carries memories, from the finger paintings of my younger brother to my Bob Ross imitations of the Calgarian Rockies. I see more than my favourite bites of food or my two cats in my sketches; what I commit to paper reflects my values and priorities at each stage of my life.

This is the lens I bring to communications. When I designed posts, I saw them not only as a way to capture engagement but as a way to tell our stories. Although Anki cards help me remember things short-term, I want to capture our memories long-term through art. As VP Communications, I hope to not only spread the word about what’s happening, but also capture the experiences we will share, the things that make us unique and why we’re all embarking on this journey together.

My platform:
Have you ever felt lost? Overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information? Unsure of where to turn to? My platform is focused on putting YOU in the centre of communication: answering YOUR questions, collecting YOUR feedback, and featuring YOU through communication that never compromises.

Answering your questions includes creating more accessible information channels beyond your inbox. Through creating a website FAQ, short informative videos, and weekly story summaries of upcoming events, I will make staying in the loop effortless and engaging.

You deserve to have your voices heard. Communication isn’t a one-way street; it’s also opening up avenues for you to speak back. As VP Communications, I’ll create more accessible ways to share feedback, making it easier to connect with MMSC and amplify your voice.

Most importantly, representation means seeing yourself in community. The MMSC should reflect the diversity and talent of its students through real stories, events, and faces.

How do you plan to ensure that EDI is integrated in your role(s)?
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is embedded in how we communicate; not only the different languages we speak, but in the stories, experiences, and perspectives that we carry, which shape our approach towards communication itself.

For me, ensuring accessibility goes beyond simply providing information. It means integrating personalization into my approach: offering multiple formats of communication, using accessible language, and easing access to resources. It means access that is proactive rather than reactive. Active consultation with students about how they prefer to receive information, and barriers they face, ensures that changes do not reflect my own positionality but the lived experiences of those around me.

Within my goal of bringing more of student life to our digital identity, I will showcase the work and initiatives of different cultural, advocacy and EDI groups on campus. What we share should represent the MMSC as it truly is: diverse in background, identity, and experience.
