Running for:
VP External, VP Student Affairs

About me:

Hi everyone! I'm Olivia and I'm very excited to be starting this journey at Mac with you all. Outside of school, you'll usually find me reading a book, playing soccer or attempting to bake something new. I did my undergrad in biochemistry at Western, and I'm someone who is outgoing, organized, and enjoys bringing people together. I chose McMaster because of its strong sense of community and that's something I really want to contribute to. I want to be someone my classmate can rely on, whether that means organizing something fun, connecting people, or listening to a concern. Ultimately, I want everyone to have the opportunity to make the most of medical school and define success on their own terms. I'm looking forward to getting to know each other even more and building an inclusive community together.

My platform:
As your VP Student Affairs, I want to help build a supportive, connected class where everyone has opportunities to decompress, connect, and feel part of the community.

Strengthen mentorship: I'll build on existing mentorship programs and hopefully introduce an informal "Ask Me Anything" event where incoming students can connect with upper years and ask honest questions about navigating medical school.

Build community: I'll organize wellness events throughout the year that work to create genuine connection and foster success in all aspects of life. I'll prioritize student feedback to make sure that events reflect what our class actually wants.

Advocate for students: I'll listen to student concerns and bring them forward to Student Affairs, ensuring wellness and student success remain central to program decisions.

With strong organization and collaboration skills, I hope to create a class culture where students feel supported, connected, and comfortable reaching out to one another.

How do you plan to ensure that EDI is integrated in your role(s)?
I want EDI to continuously shape how I approach these roles and integrate these principles into my actions. Most importantly, I'll approach these roles with openness, humility and a willingness to learn. I'll actively seek input from students of all experiences and needs when preparing for important meeting, implementing class initiatives, and planning wellness events. I'll also enforce accessible ways for students to submit feedback anonymously. As VP External, I'll make sure Mac is represented fairly while recognizing that our student body has diverse priorities. I'll communicate opportunities and initiatives clearly, and endeavour to bring forward student concerns that might be overlooked. As VP Student Affairs, I'll ensure all students have meaningful opportunities to participate and create connections with peers from all backgrounds to foster a supportive community. For mentorship, I'll aim to create opportunities for students to connect with mentors who can offer a range of perspectives and experiences.
