Running for:
VP Internal (Niagara)

About me:
Hi everyone! I’m Mohamed, a Biomedical Engineering graduate, one of three siblings, and proud dog owner. My family is the most important part of my life, and I’m happiest when I’m surrounded by good people. In my free time, I love designing random pieces of furniture on my 3D printer, playing volleyball, basketball, and basically any racquet sport, and, most importantly, eating. I am a big eater and I definitely have a sweet tooth. So, I’m always down to try a new restaurant, so I’d love to make “NRC tries a new place” a monthly tradition.

I also love baking, specifically making pizza, which I firmly believe counts as baking.

I’m excited to get to know everyone better, try new things together, and hopefully make NRC 2029 a cohort where we can have a lot of fun along the way.

My platform:
Starting medical school, I was anxious about finding a community where I belonged. With the added challenge of commuting, those fears felt real. Yet, from our first tutorials and lectures to the Gala, I was struck by how kind and supportive everyone was. Many of us entered this chapter nervous, only to find a cohort ready to support one another.

I want to build on that foundation and make our medical school community feel like a family.

My platform is built on three pillars: Inclusivity, Initiative, and Community. I hope to foster inclusive events, strengthening relationships through common and different interests, from baseball to snowboarding to crossword competitions. I want to create workshops and initiatives that let us explore specialties and develop skills beyond clerkship and horizontals. I want to make NRC 2029 a family that builds each other up. Together, we can ensure no one navigates medical school alone.

How do you plan to ensure that EDI is integrated in your role(s)?
I believe EDI starts with listening. I would run democratically, creating anonymous feedback forms where everyone can share concerns, ask questions, and suggest ways to make events and initiatives more inclusive.

I recognize that our cohort is diverse, and not everyone will enjoy or feel comfortable with the same activities. My goal is therefore not to create one definition of community, but to create opportunities for everyone to find where they belong. If someone feels that something is missing, I want to empower them to help create it by supporting student-led events and initiatives that reflect their interests and experiences.

This position is not about me; it is about our entire cohort. I want to ensure that everyone has a voice, feels comfortable bringing their ideas forward, and has opportunities to connect with others. My goal is to bring NRC 2029 together while celebrating what makes each of us different.
