Krystal Grover

Picture
Running for:
VP External, VP Communications

About me:
Hi! I’m Krystal (she/her), part of C29 at the Hamilton campus. I’m a bit of a yapper, generally full of cheer and spirit, but I’m also somehow a huge bookworm and, at times, an old grandma trapped in a 20-year-old body.

Outside of medicine, I’ve spent a lot of my life dancing, writing, doing research, and side-questing with people from really different backgrounds (including a tech-bro summer in SF!). I really do believe there’s enough in this world to go around, and in raising the floor, not just the ceiling. So I try to share generously — whether that’s an opportunity, a resource, an idea, or just connecting two people who I think should know each other. I love meeting new people, hearing what they’re excited about, and being the person who remembers something that might be useful to them later.

Fun fact: I also have a motorcycle license.

My platform:
I’ve really loved the communications work MMSC has been doing so far, and I’d want to build on it with one main idea: communication should be a two-way street!

That means not only sending information to students, but creating more ways for students to shape what MMSC communications actually look like. I’d love to introduce more student spotlights, interviews, opinion pieces and submissions, alongside quick feedback/audits throughout the year to learn what people are actually reading, finding useful, or want to see more of. I’d also work closely with Blake and UGME Communications so MMSC and UGME messaging feels more connected.

My other big idea is a C29 “Week Ahead” system: one simple place to see not only events, but what we actually need to do that week — LGS prep, MedPortal tasks, forms, deadlines and other easy-to-miss responsibilities.

How do you plan to ensure that EDI is integrated in your role(s)?
A good opportunity is only useful if people can realistically access it, and that means recognizing that not everyone starts with the same resources, networks, or freedom from systemic barriers.

In External, I’d flag cost, funding, virtual options, eligibility, and accessibility when sharing opportunities, while also surfacing free grand rounds, webinars, networking events, and conferences focused on health equity, social medicine, and underserved communities. An inter-university opportunity network would help me catch perspectives and opportunities I might otherwise miss, while sharing what Mac has to offer too. I’d also love to help C29 get more exposure to equity-focused research and initiatives.

In Communications, I’d prioritize high-contrast media, readable formatting, captions/alt text, diverse student voices, and low-barrier ways to engage.

I’d approach all of this with humility, knowing I won’t have every perspective myself, and learn from C29 through conversations, suggestions, and anonymous feedback!
