Running for:
VP Internal (Waterloo), VP Indigenous Health
My platform:
As a person of mixed settler indigenous ancestry the concepts making up indigenous health have been exceedingly important to me and my family throughout my upbringing and the formative years of my career. To the role of VP Indigenous Health, I will bring proven national advocacy experience. Serving as National Student Representative for AISES, I have advocated for thousands of Indigenous students across North America fighting for scholarship access reform to break down the financial barriers that keep Indigenous students out of higher education, and championing Indigenous language rights within academic settings.
This work is also personal to me as a researcher: my academic research has focused directly on Indigenous health, reforming provincial cancer screening programs to be more culturally safe for Indigenous participation. In this role, I look forward to working alongside the program to ensure equity persists throughout our curriculum, and that Indigenous health is addressed openly.
