Jayson Pomfret

Picture
Running for:
VP Internal (Waterloo), VP Indigenous Health

About me:
My name is Jayson Pomfret, and I am delighted to share my platforms for MMSC C29. I am a proud citizen of the Great Lakes Métis Council and the Métis Nation of Ontario. I love sports of almost all types, from the wildly popular to the mildly obscure. In my spare time, I enjoy trivia, cooking, and board games that get a little too competitive. I am excited to advocate for my community in whatever capacity the student body sees fit.

My platform:
My platform for Waterloo internal rests on two pillars: advocacy and organization.

First, advocacy. The most common concern I've heard from my Waterloo colleagues is the feeling that we operate on a different playing field than the main campus. Despite the geographical separation, I firmly believe all campuses should be united as one class. I will advocate to ensure the needs of Waterloo students are addressed with the same rigour and weight as those of main campus students.

Second, organization. I intend to take on a broad support and execution role, carrying out the work that keeps regional campuses running smoothly. This includes launching new initiatives, such as an official WRC housing information session in the summer ahead of the C30 matriculation.

How do you plan to ensure that EDI is integrated in your role(s)?
As an Indigenous person, I will start with the lens of Indigeneity, focusing specifically on breaking down barriers so that all members of the Mac Med community can pursue their own learning regarding Indigeneity in Canada. However, it remains imperative that I commit to continuing my education on perspectives and lenses that fall outside my personal intersectionality. As such, I will continue to educate myself and reach out to those around me for their input regarding EDI implementation, with the overall goal of making Mac Med a safe and comfortable space for people of all identities backgrounds and lived experiences.
