Jared Bierbrier

Picture
Running for:
VP Internal (Hamilton), VP External

About me:
Hello! My name is Jared, and I’m the youngest of four siblings. I was born and raised in Toronto and have always loved being part of a busy, close-knit family.

Before medicine, I completed iBioMed here at McMaster and then went to U of T for my Master of Public Health. Now, I’m very happy to be back at Mac!

Outside of school, I love staying active, especially running and working out, spending time with friends, cooking, and watching movies. Most importantly, I’m a big fan of Costco, primarily for the free samples and occasionally for the actual shopping.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone over the next three years, so if you ever see me around, please come say hi!

My platform:

My platform for VP Internal is centred on making it easy for everyone to feel involved in our class community.

First, I want to expand the variety of social events we have, including smaller, low-commitment activities alongside larger events, so there are different ways for classmates to connect.

Second, I want to make interest groups and committees easier to navigate by clearly communicating what groups exist, how to get involved, and when opportunities are coming up.

Third, I want to create more of the small moments that bring a class together, whether through spontaneous activities, celebrating milestones, or building class traditions that we can carry with us through all three years.

Ultimately, I want to help create a C29 where getting involved feels easy, there are different ways to connect, and our class traditions grow alongside us.

How do you plan to ensure that EDI is integrated in your role(s)?
I plan to integrate EDI into my role in three main ways. First, I will proactively seek input, using anonymous feedback and class check-ins to hear from students who may not feel comfortable raising concerns publicly. Second, I will collaborate early, involving the VPs of EDI, Indigenous Health, and Black Health when relevant initiatives are being planned, rather than only seeking their input after decisions have been made. Third, I will build EDI into decision-making by considering factors such as accessibility, cost, timing, and whether an initiative could unintentionally exclude members of our class.

I recognize that I will not have the lived experience to fully understand every issue, so I will be willing to listen, ask questions, and adapt my approach based on the perspectives of others.
