Running for:
VP Communications
About me:
Hi! I'm Hailey Tien (HAY-lee TEE-ehn, she/her), it's nice to meet you! Some quick fun facts about me:
1) I have a couple odd allergies - citrus and raspberry seeds, anyone?
2) I want to go to Sweden specifically to try Swedish meatballs and compare how they taste to IKEA's version. Very scientific, I know.
3) I LOVE the visual arts - if you name a medium, I've probably tried it! My favourites are animation, charcoal, and acrylics :) Ask me to draw/paint/create or talk about it ANYTIME.
I think I make a great VP Communications candidate due to my rich background in graphics and communication (head of design for an arts & literature magazine, president & creator of all promotional materials for a painting club), consistently striving to make my works both visually appealing and accessible through legibility and alternative formats, and my passion to create a fun and welcoming community!
My platform:
Hello everyone! I hope to bridge the gap between the MMSC and student body as a whole through the following:
1) Accessibility: Are MMSC updates sometimes hard to read? I personally think so. I'd like to experiment with reels, accessible fonts, and other formats to make it easier for everyone to understand, enjoy, and keep up with us. After all, we're here to serve YOU, which only works if you know what's going on!
2) Feedback: Making a space to share concerns and suggestions for MMSC's communication channels! I hope our communication and community will consistently improve throughout the year.
3) Transparency: Letting everyone know WHEN and WHERE to expect MMSC monthly updates, submit feedback, and find opportunities, including when we might be late on schedule. For example, I hope to start an ongoing resources section in the newsletter!
To remember my platform, here's a mnemonic: you hAFTa vote Hailey :)
How do you plan to ensure that EDI is integrated in your role(s)?
1) Accessibility: Whether it's serif or sans-serif font, of which the latter is said to be more effective for people with dyslexia, or the spacing between different letters and lines, I hope to research and find fonts that make updates and posts easier for as many people as possible to read. I'm also looking into accompanying audio & descriptive text options!
2) Feedback: Feedback is a huge pillar of incorporating EDI. I plan to take every piece of feedback I receive seriously, and ask for input from the student body whenever I incorporate a new change.
3) Transparency: By keeping what myself and the council is working on accessible and open, I hope to make it easier for us to take accountability and receive feedback.
