Running for:
President, VP Indigenous Health

About me:
I was born and raised in Happy-Valley, Labrador, a community that taught me the truest sense of giving where people take care of people. Growing up an Inuit woman further shaped my appreciation for identity, advocacy, and making space for different voices. I have always been drawn to movement, meaning and expression. I became an athlete with a competitive edge, a lover of learning and a theater junkie. These outlets gave me a voice which helped me navigate the complexities of the world around me. The common thread across everything I do is connection. My most memorable experiences are those that introduced me to new perspectives and made me feel part of something bigger than myself. I bring energy, curiosity, and love of people to everything I do. I believe the strongest communities are built by people who show up for one another, and when I commit, I’m all in.

My platform:
We are beginning medical school at an incredible time. Scientific breakthroughs and rapid advancements are shaping the future of healthcare, and we get to be part of it. While exciting, this unfamiliar world can feel overwhelming. I want to be someone you can rely on throughout this journey and foster a community where no one feels they have to navigate it alone. I believe the kindness, compassion, and desire to help that brought us to medicine should shape how we show up for each other. I also believe representation should be visible and accountable. You deserve to know what is happening, how decisions are made, and what happens when concerns are raised. As President, I will seek your perspectives, advocate for what matters to you, and follow up transparently. I envision a class where every voice matters, we support one another, and embrace the challenges and possibilities of medicine together.

How do you plan to ensure that EDI is integrated in your role(s)?
As President, I want EDI to be embedded in how our council operates. I first of all want to acknowledge that I cannot assume I know what every student needs or what meaningful support looks like for them. What I can promise is that I will listen, remain open, encourage new ideas, and work to create an environment where every student feels comfortable bringing forward their perspectives and concerns. I also want to learn from what has worked in the past, what has not, and how we can continue to improve. By working closely with our VP Indigenous Health, VP EDI, other council members, and the broader student body, I hope to identify gaps in our programming, advocacy, and class environment. This means creating accessible ways to raise concerns, actively seeking feedback rather than waiting for issues to arise, and being transparent about how that feedback translates into action.
