Hello everyone, my name is Satya (he/him)! I am South-Indian but grew up in Brantford and did my undergrad at Western. I love playing sports, including basketball and volleyball, going out with friends, and attempting (key word: attempting) to cook. Coming to Mac med has been a dream come true but meeting so many wonderful people in my short time here has been a hidden gem. Besides medicine, I’ve always been interested in numbers, learning about the economy, and, as nerdy as it may sound, spreadsheets. It's important to see how resources are distributed and also why I like budgeting my own expenses to keep track of my spending (with the exception of bubble tea). Overall, I enjoy the smaller details of life, trying to optimize everything I can to be able to bring more joy and success for myself and others.
As VP Finance, along with being organized and responsible, I plan to implement ideas to help students have a better experience and more opportunities. Transparency - I'm sure everyone is curious about how their MMSC fee is being used. I plan to share a summary on the MMSC budget so that students are aware of how finances are being spent and can provide feedback. Collaboration - I will ensure that resources are going towards events/programs that reflect student's needs and wants. By collaborating with VP Communications, the MMSC can understand what students like and dislike, and manage finances accordingly to create a better student experience. Interest Groups/Committees - There are many diverse groups/committees which may not receive the proper funding they require to achieve their goals. By working with the Co-Chairs, I hope to provide funding to these groups so they can thrive and create new opportunities for students.
We're fortunate to have such a diverse class and to be able to learn about different cultures and backgrounds. However, with this diversity also comes the responsibility to ensure the voices of marginalized groups are heard and initiatives taken by these groups are properly funded and respected. As VP Finance, it's my responsibility to ensure finances are being adequately spent on promoting equity to provide ALL students with a better experience. A large part of this involves collaboration and communication to understand where there are financial problems. I plan to work with VP EDI and VP Indigenous Health as well as Co-Chairs of interest groups/committees (Indigenous Health, 2SLGBTQ+, Accessibility Awareness and many more) to understand their needs so that finances can be managed accordingly. By doing so, I hope to provide adequate funding so these communities can be supported, achieve their initiatives and be set up for success.
